APRIL HAYES M.S. CCC-SLP

Co-founder, Speech Language Pathologist

Hello! I’m April Hayes. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, a mother of two and a co-founder at The Reading Company. I completed my undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders and graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology at Western Kentucky University. I’m licensed in the state of Kentucky and hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. I’ve spent the majority of my clinical career as a school based SLP and an early intervention provider serving the birth-three population. I have received training in the Barton Reading and Spelling system as well as in the Orton Gillingham approach. I firmly believe in the importance of being a lifetime learner and I am an ASHA ACE award recipient. I have special interests in early language development, developmental language disorders, speech sound production disorders and literacy based language disorders. I am passionate about parent involvement in treatment and believe the magic happens when you can elicit carryover of those targeted skills into life outside of the therapy room. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time camping and traveling with my family.

ALLISON HIGGINS M.S. CCC-SLP

Hi, I'm Allison. I am an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist and co-founder of The Reading Company LLC. I completed my undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders at Western Kentucky University and received my Masters in Speech and Hearing Science at Tennessee State University. I began my speech therapy journey in Anchorage, Alaska working as a school based SLP for Anchorage School District before discovering my newfound passion, dyslexia. I’m trained and certified in the Barton Reading and Spelling System and I am eager to help children improve their reading, spelling and writing skills. I strive to help my clients build confidence with improving their written communication abilities and involving parents in the treatment progress. I am married to my best friend and we have a little boy, Trace, who is our biggest blessing. When away from the office I enjoy hiking, traveling and doing projects around our cabin home.
